Kids and Cell Phones

In today’s world its hard to figure out what is a good age for a child to have a phone. My daughter is 11 and has a cell phone.

How I determined she needed one…

One day I needed to run to the store and she was 10. She wanted to stay home a lone. The store was 10 min away. I called the local police and asked if there was an age children can stay home a lone. In PA there is no law. So, I thought, she is mature and I quizzed her about what to do in all situations.

As she got used to being a lone for short periods of time, we let be a lone longer and longer. She is up to 2 hours by herself sometimes. I thought a lot can happen in 2 hours and we have no home phone. My husband and I got her a track phone. Is $20 every three months and we only paid $59 for the phone. It is a smart phone and we monitor everything on it.

She has gained self confidence, learned responsibility, and learned to budget her minutes.

I’m not saying this is for every child or every parent but it did well for us.

Please share your stories… Thank you

Bed Time

Laying in bed, watching TV with my hubby. Talking about our kids and our life as parents.

Sometimes it seems strange to look back at our lives before children. I can never seem to remember what I did before I had kids.

I wonder what life would be like if I waited to have kids until after we were married or at least after the age of 21. I wonder if I would still have the same children I have now…

I’m curious but I have no regrets.

If you could go back and change anything about your life, what would it be?
